Raajneeti which has got good reviews got the biggest opening of 2010, breaking records of recent films like Housefull and Kites . This despite the fact that the film opened in less screens and less shows as compared to both the films. The opening weekend net is around Rs 34 crore and the worldwide gross is said to be Rs 62 crore. This is phenomenal for a film made at a budget of Rs 45 crore.
For a political-thriller which isn’t really considered to be a great crowd-puller in foreign market, Raajneeti has done considerably well in the overseas market too. In lead markets like Britain, US and the Gulf region, the movie has done business worth $315,048, $916,446 and $500,000, respectively.
A star-studded cast including heart-throbs Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Arjun Rampal along with master actors Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan and Manoj Bajpai, helped the film get a good initial. The good content will help sustain the film at the box-office.
