Which Bollywood movie book adaptation you like the most?


Ashutosh Gowariker’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se is a wonderful adaptation of the book ‘Do and Die: The Chittagong Uprising 1930-34' by Manini Chatterjee. Let us look at some of the Hindi films that have been adapted from book and let us find out which Bollywood movie did the best adaptation of a novel or book.

1. Devdas: Bengali novelist Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s famous novel Devdas has been adapted into 8 versions of Devdas in different Indian languages, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas being the latest
2. Parineeta: Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Parineeta, was adapted into five different movies in different Indian languages. The Bollywood version of Parineeta includes the one in 2005 starring Saif Ali Khan and Vidya Balan and the 1953 version starring Ashok Kumar and Meena Kumari.
3. 3 Idiots: Raj Kumar Irani’s 3 Idiots is a very good adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s Five Point Someone. Though the writer said that 90 percent of the book was copied into the movie, the audience and the director had a different take on that. Read more on Chetan Bhagat vs Aamir Khan controversy.
4. Slumdog Millionaire: Slumdog Millionaire was based on the book Q & A written by diplomat Vikas Swarup.
