Shammi Kapoor dead, First Internet user in India Dead

One of the most charismatic actors ever, Shammi Kapoor died today at 5:15 am. Amitabh Bachchan was the first to break the news on Twitter. Amitabh Bachchan tweeted around 9 am on Sunday: 'Shammi Kapoorji passed away this morning at 5:15 am .. Rushing there now .. the flamboyance and joi de vivre of the Industry lost!'

How did Shammi Kapoor die?

Shammi Kapoor nee Shamsher Raj was 79 when he died. The brother of Bollywood showman Raj Kapoor and actor Shashi Kapoor, Shammi Kapoor was suffering from chronic renal failure. He has acted in more than 100 films and has been called the king of Hillstation Romance and the Elvis Presley of India
Early start: Shammi Kapoor had a short stint at Ruia College, in Matunga, Mumbai, after which he joined his father’s theatrical company "Prithvi Theatres". He entered the cinema world in 1948, as a junior artiste, at a salary of Rs. 150 per month, stayed with Prithvi Theatres for the next four years and collected his last paycheck, Rs. 300, in 1953.

Shammi Kapoor made his debut with the movie ‘Jeevan Jyoti’ in 1953 and then went on to become the number 1 actor in the 50s and 60s with sensational hits like Teesri Manzil, An Evening in Paris, Kashmir Ki Kali, Tumsa Nahi Dekha, Dil Deke Dekho, Janwar, etc. He received the Filmfare Best Actor Award in 1968 for his performance in Brahmachari and Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor forVidhaata in 1982.
In the 1970s, the actor’s weight gain became a hurdle in his path of success and ended his career as a romantic hero. One of his last hits, in which he played the lead role, was Andaz (1971). With time, he moved to character roles and acted in films like Zameer, Hero andVidhaata. In 1974, he directed a movie called Manoranjan, a film based on Irma La Douce. Two years later, he directed eBandalbaaz (1976). Both the movies flopped at the box office.

Shammi Kapoor’s last role is in the movie Rockstar (2011), in which he plays grandfather to his real-life grand nephew Ranbir Kapoor. His condition deteriorated in 2006 and he had to go for dialysis three times a week. But his condition never failed to depress him and the talented actor who called himself Renaissance man, retired actor, computer buff on Twitter

Shammi Kapoor was India’s first Internet user; he was also among the first ones to have his website in the country. He bought Windows software and computer long before many in India even heard about a computer. When Yahoo opened its first office in Mumbai, Shammi Kapoor was invited by Jerry yang
Jerry Yang flattered Shammi Kapoor by saying that he was indebted to him for the song in his film ‘Yahoo’ which was instrumental in the name of Yahoo.com. Though Yahoo is also a fictional piece in Gulliver's Travels, Jerry Yang founder of Yahoo was influenced by the Yahoo song in Shammi Kapoor's Junglee.

Among many actors of today’s generation who misses him, one of the biggest one would be Aamir Khan who would regard Shammi Kapoor as his ultimate inspiration. Aamir would go to Shammi before the release of every movie and seek his blessings.

Legendary actor Shammi Kapoor passed into the ages on Sunday morning. He was 79.
Film personalities lost no time in turning to twitter and mourning the loss of the great actor:
Amitabh Bachchan, who broke the news on twitter, added later: 'Shammi ji ... An entire life full of optimism and happy spirit, caring loving to all ... Now suddenly silent.'

Shabana Azmi received the sad news at Brussels airport. 'At brussels airport learned d sad news about shammi kapoorji.we mourn the loss of d most zinda dil man I've ever met. condolence to d family,' she wrote.
Farhan Akhtar tweeted: 'Mr. Shammi Kapoor. Never before - Never again. Thank you for the wonderful cinematic memories and life lessons. RIP.'

Karan Johar said he was one of the strongest men he knew. 'One of finest and strongest men I knew...we will truly miss you shammi uncle....RIP,' he tweeted.

Manoj Bajpayee tweeted: 'May god bless shammiji's soul.may he rest in peace!ian era comes to an end with his demise!'
