Background

Tisca Chopra was born as Priya Arora on November 1, 1970. She is from Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. Having done her schooling in Apeejay School, Noida, where her father was principal, she happened to do good in academics Tisca Chopra was a topper in Hindu College, Delhi University in English Literature.

During her college days, Tisca would do theater, she would act in plays for an amateur theater group and also participate in college festivals. She would also write for a few publications. After finishing education, Tisca came to Mumbai and she started doing theater professionally under the guidance of Naseeruddin Shah and Feroz Abbas Khan.

When she was just 23, Tisca Chopra bagged her debut role in Platform opposite Ajay Devgan. Though her character was just that of a pretty young thing, Tisca wanted better roles, and so she polished her acting skills in Mumbai theater circuit.

Soon, Tisca bagged roles in plays like Feroz Abbas Khan's Mahatma vs Gandhi, All The Best, Salesman Ramlal and Inshah Allah. In 2004, Tisca Chopra got a role in Hyderabad Blues 2. Fame came calling in the form of the 2007 superhit Taare Zameen Par, in which she played the role of Darsheel Safary’s mother.
Tisca Chopra was nominated many times for Best Supporting Actress for Taare Zameen Par for many award institution but won Stardust Best Supporting Actress Award for the movie.

Her acting in Firaaq directed by Nandita Das has also been appreciated. In 2011, Tisca Chopra did her boldest role, of a cougar woman, a bored rich housewife, whom Emran Hashmi charms in Dil toh Baccha Hai Ji. She was next seen as a Urdu professor in Love, Break Ups, Zindagi, which did not do that well.

Tisca Chopra has done quite a few ad commercials including Olay Total Effects, Dish TV, Kelloggs All Bran, Vioni and Horlicks Gold.

Tisca is married to Captain Sanjay Chopra, who is a pilot with Air India. He has also turned author and relased his book at the Jaipur Literature Festival, called ‘Said and Done’ which has a collection of short stories based on historical fiction. Sanjay added, “ "My publisher in India is contemplating on changing the name of the book before it is launched in India."
