Anything for cheap publicity and money

The famous tabloid Mumbai Mirror exposed how Malaika Arora and her husband took the newspaper and readers for a ride by telling lies about their divorce . Malaika Arora even went to quote that her husband was remarrying someone else. News about the high profile divorce flashed in newspapers and several websites. However Mumbai mirror on the very next day, proved that the divorce thing was just one big circus, a shot by the two people at taking cheap publicity. The newspaper had recorded their versions on tape and now the stars(?) had no answer. The newspaper stated that both Malaika and Arbaaz Khan had done this just for money. The couple who are very much together were asked to do so by a cosmetics company that was on its way to start a skin-care product to rake up a story. Really anything goes for money! In fact, the tabloid also came in for criticism for highlighting this inconsequential piece of news when there were far more serious news in the country like the unfortunate death of children in a school bus at Gujarat.

In fact, actors sensationalize certain things and then have a ready answer next time around: 'I was misquoted.' Nowadays, these celebrities do not have much of a choice and have to be careful with their words, because their conversations are recorded. Actors often accuse the media of taking cheap publicity but this is not always so. To stay in news and earn money, they also do shockingly embarrassing things. Like someone said, anything goes for money.

Earlier Priyanka Chopra sold love in the form of a Lux campaign. Lux had paid cricketer Sreesanth and actress Priyanka Chopra to float an advertisment in the form of an unsuspecting telephone call, which was to be distributed in a secret MMS format online, so that the readers would get the impression that they had laid hands to a secret telephonic converstion between the two. Both the cricketer and the actress made the audio clip sound fake(thanks to some poor voice modulation), that listeners could make out it was a fake. Later Priyanka Chopra and Sreesnath admitted that they had done this teaser as a campaign for Lux. It was a very cheap way of advertising which Priyanka Chopra thought was fun. Talking about selling love! Download the audio clip here.

But the publicity stunt used by Rakhi Sawant, the one who breathes publicity and boyfriend Abhishek, was a clincher when it comes to cheap publicity. You just cannot get cheaper than that. Abhishek comes with journalists in tow on Valentine's Day to propose to Rakhi Sawant who appearantly has had a tiff with him. Rakhi is in a bad mood over the tiff they had earlier, and blames Abhishek for being conservative and possessive. She even slaps him in full view of the camera. The news reporters who everthing live on camera, tried to reason out with her and tell her to be pacified. Rakhi relents and both Abhishek and Rakhi Sawant make up. Talk about making Valentine's Day an All Fools' Day. However the viewers were intelligent enough to look through the couple's petty attempts to gain publicity. Frankly readers are not bothered if celebs, especially the wannabes are divorced, carrying on or humping around.
