Dunno how much of that is true, but if Yash Chopra does not reprimand his son Aditya Chopra, the audience certainly will. Yash Raj films who has had an illustrious tradition of making some of the most successful movies have bitten dust since the last two years.
Of late, YashRaj movies have been “all style, no substance”. Tashan is the biggest flop of the year 2008. Last year too Yash Raj had made dismal movies like Lagaa Chunari Mein Daag, Aaja Nachle, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Tara Rum Pum. Tashan has not only suffered at the hands of the people and critics, but due to the breakdown of negotiations, the movie did not even release in multiplexes.
The real reason for the poor show of Yash Raj films, barring a Hum Tum and a Chak De India, is lack of good content. Even Dhoom 2 inspite of being succesful had poor content. Aditya Chopra may have thought style usually wins, but then everyday is no Sunday. It certainly did not work for Tashan. Aditya Chopra is also responsible for giving a raw deal to Saif Ali Khan in Tashan. He is a superstar now with a legion of fans and to reduce him to caricature in the second half of Tashan, is criminal.
It would be better if Aditya’s veteran dad Yash Chopra steps in and does some damage control. It is believed that he will personaly supervise scripts(God Bless him!) and make sure quality is not compromised. Aditya Chopra is sure to direct Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi which goes on floor with the ever dependable Shahrukh Khan. But this time Yash Chopra will not take a casual attitude and let his son run the show. Even Subash Ghai, the showman has taken an intelligent decision and is making low budget quality movies like Iqbal and Black and White. Grandeur is fine, but no amount of style and packaging can be good if the quality is bad.
