Raaz 2 review: Raaz 2 The Mystery Continues…to bore

Raaz 2 directed by Mohit Suri was touted to be a worthy successor to the super cool horror movie Raaz(2002). Sadly Raaz 2 does not even measure up to even half of what Raaz offered, be it in terms of content or horror. Much to your horror, you will find Raaz 2 has many clichéd scenes delving in elements which you have seen many times.

Story of Raaz 2: Kangana Ranaut plays Nandita Chopra, a model who is in a relationship with Yash Dayal (Adhyayan Suman), an ambitious director of a TV reality show “Andhvishwas” Meanwhile in a place called Kalindhi, a foreigner witnesses a man mutilating himself in the name of devil. The foreigner too commits a suicide. Prithvi(Emran Hashmi) is an artist who had subconsciously drawn the picture of Nandita. He chances upon the owner of the face he has drawn and stalks her. Eerie things begin to befall Nandita and she begins to react the same way as was depicted in the paintings. Prithvi warns Nandita that a torturous death awaits her too, because he had drawn the picture of her dying. However when Nandita is about to kill herself because of a ghastly(ghostly) force, Prithvi manages to save her. Together Nandita and Prithvi try to seek what is the real reason behind the spooky things haunting Nandita. How Prithvi manages to save Nandita’s life and the truth behind the spooky incidents forms the rest of Raaz 2.

Plus points of Raaz 2: The director creates a right and apt situation for horror sequences; a couple of scenes are genuinely scary.

Minus points of Raaz 2: Raaz 2 does not have any kind of freshness in terms of horror. All the sequences that are injected have a déjà vu feel. Though a certain kind of apprehensiveness is created, the impact is lost, and is not even half of what 1920 or Raaz. Most of the horror scenes in Raaz 2 are disjointed and are just for effect without leading towards the plot. One cannot understand why Nandita is made a scapegoat when she had nothing to do with the problem that the dead man(Jackie Shroff) had. Though the songs by Raju Singh are good, they do not have lasting value.

Performances in Raaz 2: The spirited Kangana Ranaut is in top form in Raaz 2. She has never looked better as she has in Raaz 2. Also Kangana Ranaut’s character in the beginning looks like an extension of her role in Fashion. Emraan Hashmi plays his character well. Adhyayan Suman still has a long way to go; he gets his bearings only in the climax scenes.

Conclusion: Raaz 2 suffers from a bad script and half baked horror scenes. Mohit Suri’s Raaz 2 is nowhere near Vikram Bhatt’s fear ridden Raaz and 1920.
