Bollywood movies based on Kidnap!



In the 70s and 80s, there have been many instances in films where the hero’s mother or sister get kidnapped in the pre-climax scene. The daring hero is perplexed, whether to save his relatives or bring the criminal to justice. More often than not, he ends up doing both. But in those Bollywood films, the concept of kidnap was just used as a device where villains try their last bit to check-mate the hero.

But in the past twenty years or so, there have been movies in which the protagonists have kidnapped some or other people to escape poverty, make quick money or get back at their enemies. In these Bollywood , we usually see kidnap as the main part of the plot, where the act can lead to hilarious situation, confusion or even murder. Here are some of the best Bollywood movies based on kidnap in the past 20 years.

1. Khiladi(1992): Akshay Kumar, Deepak Tijori, Ayesha Jhulka stage a fake kidnap of Sabeeha so that they could con her wealthy father, Prem Chopra. It is just a plan that the four collegians hatch as a way to enjoy their harmless prank. However things get really out of hand, when Sabeeha is murdered and Akshay Kumar, Deepak Tijori and Ayesha Jhulka find themselves at a tight spot.
2. Hera Pheri(2000): The cult comedy Hera Pheri has Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal hatching what they think, is a ‘master plan’ to make money through short cut. They get a call from a criminal called Kabira (Gulshan Grover) who has kidnapped Devi Prasad’s daughter and is holding her for ransom. Akshay Kumar comes up with the idea of contacting the real Devi Prasad by posing themselves as Kabira and asking for double the ransom money. They think that they would hand over the original amount to Kabira, and keep the other half to themselves. But then, things do not go exactly as they planned.
3. Love Ke Liye Kucch Bhi Karega(2001): Saif Ali Khan who marries Sonali Bendre, asks his rich father-in-law Dilip Tahil for money to start business. Father-in-law flatly refuses to help him financially. Two poor guys Fardeen Khan and Aftab Shivdasani try to rob Dilip Tahil but Saif who catches them strikes a deal-he asks them to kidnap Sonali Bendre and says that they can divide the ransom amount between the three. But trouble happens when Sonali is actually kidnapped by the real kidnappers and the ransom money is sought.
4. Aankhen(1993): One of the all-time biggest hits, the David Dhawan directed Aankhen had Govinda being mistakenly involved in the abduction of the state chief minister, while the underworld run look-alike of the chief minister begins to manage the state.
5. Jungle(2000): Jungle directed by Ram Gopal Verma was loosely based on dreaded Veerapan. In the movie,Durga Narayan Chaudhry kidnaps tourists and hold them to ransom with the condition that one of their associates are realized from custody.
6. Plan(2004): Four guys, Dino Morea, Rohit Roy,Sanjay Suri and Bikram Saluja who have their own set of problems and financial difficulties find themselves in great debt, when they lose their monies in gambling and owe the winner Rs.7 lakhs. They kidnap a rich business tycoon Sanjay Dutt, but later they realize that he is the city’s most feared underworld don.
7. De Taali(2008): Ayesha Takia and Ritesh Deshmukh kidnap Rimi Sen because the two friends do not want Rimi to marry their rich pal Aftab Shivdasani. Since Ayesha secretly loves Aftab, Ritesh tries to help her by kidnapping Rimi who he thinks is a gold-digger.
8. Kidnap(2008): Imran Khan kidnaps luscious Lamba(read Minisha Lamba) and demands ransom from her father Sanjay Dutt, who is the city’s richest man. Imran has scores to settle because Sanjay Dutt had put him behind the bars for committing a crime years ago.
9. Barah Aana(2009): Barah Aana is a story of three people from lower middle class section of the society, who decide to kidnap rich people, and ask for ransom, so that they could make some quick money.
