Dev Anand, one of Bollywood’s biggest legends died today leaving millions in shock. The legendary actor died of heart attack in Washington Mayfair Hotel. Dev Anand was 89. He died in his sleep. He was not sick contrary to the reports.
Dev Anand had gone to London for a 20 day vacation along with his family. A reporter who spoke to him said that he was cheerful and happy, and was not sick two hours before he died. No one could fathom a guess that Dev Anand would die. He passed away at 10 pm London Time. The last bit of news is that Dev Anand would be buried in London.
Dev Anand had made his debut in 1946 in the movie Hum Ek Hain. Dev was offered his first big break by Ashok Kumar. He spotted Dev hanging around in the studios and picked him as the hero for the Bombay Talkies production, Ziddi, costarring Kamini Kaushal (1948) which became an instant success. After Ziddi's success Dev had decided that he would start producing films.
Ziddi released in 1947, was a ticket to superstardom and since then he never looked back. Dev Anand’s biggest hits include Guide, CID, Jewel Thief, Amir Garib, Hare Rama Hare Krishna, Des Pardes, Warrant, Johnny Mera Naam, Banarasi Babu .
Dev Anand established Navketan International Films in 1949 which produced more than 35 fiilms. He was also honored Padma Bhushan in 2001 and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002.
Dev Anand won 2 Filmfare Awards for Kaala Pani in 1958 and for Guide in 1966. Guide is one of the most popular films of Bollywood having won 7 Filmfare Awards including Best Actor to Dev Anand, Best Director and Best Film. It was also India's entry for the Oscars in the foreign film category that year. He also won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award in 1993 and Screen Videocon Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996.

Never the one to be tired of old age, Dev Anand was an embodiment of positive energy who would be interested like a teenager even in the sunset of his age. He had said that he would like to die while making a film which he did. Dev Anand was making a new film called ‘Song of Life’ in which he would play the central character when he breathed his last. Dev Anand died at 3:30 am in the morning at London on December 3, 2011
