Kareena Kapoor, 31 years old, is the richest actress in Bollywood. Though it is not confirmed, it is believed that Kareena is being paid Rs.8crores for Heroine which will have her in her most powerful role. She will also have a stake in the profits of the film. And why should't she? As her counterpart Vidya Balan had said that if a heroine can bring people to the theaters, she should get her just price.

Kareena Kapoor's filmi background may have helped her get a launch in Refugee (2000) but for nearly  seven years, she was labelled a jinx as well as just another actress. Even some of her hits in the decade were not doing justice to her as an actress, barring for an odd Chameli (2004) which was critically acclaimed. Major commerical success finally fell onto her lap with Jab We Met (2007) and she walked away with all the awards. Bollywood started taking her seriously and she became a part of movies that did business more than Rs 100 crores.  From jinx, Kareena Kapoor became the lucky mascot. 3 Idiots (2009), Golmaal 3 (2010), Bodyguard (2011) and Ra. One (2011) had Kareena Kapoor as a beautiful cause for their enviable run at the box office.

Going forward, Kareena Kapoor will play the most important role of her career so far, Heroine (2012), an author-backed role, which will do justice to her, as Fashion did to Priyanka Chopra, Chandni Bar to Tabu and The Dirty Picture did to Vidya Balan.

Vidya Balan, 33 years old, has reinvented boldness in Bollywood with The Dirty Picture. Labelled as the female version of Aamir Khan, she made even her flab in the movie, an asset worth applauding.  The talented actress has grown from strength to strength. Even she started her career with a jinxed label. Malayalam movie industry never took her in its wings even though she had made a debut in a Bengali movie Bhalo Theko (2003). Bollywood was supposed to be her calling when Pradeep Sarkar gave her Parineeta (2005)  She was strikingly beautiful in the  film, acted refreshingly well,  and walked away with the Filmfare Best Debut Award.

Then she got another big success in Lage Raho Munnabhai(2006) where she starred with her favorite co-star Sanjay Dutt again.  Actually, she was the one who had given the idea of 3 Idiots to Raju Hirani. She had read Chetan Bhagat's book 5 Point Someone and shared it with the director while they were filming Lage Raho Munnabhai. Raju took Kareena for the film and the rest is history.

 Vidya Balan even did a supporting role in Guru (2007) where she played the role of a paraplegic in the movie.  For a few films along the way,  she pranced around in miniskirts possibly to look as fetching as Priyanka Chopra or Kareena kapoor but those kind of Western wear did not do justice to her curvaceous figure. Just like her dress sense was criticized, so were her movies like Heyy Babyy and Kismat Konnection.

 In 2007, Vidya Balan turned out to be the spirit of Bhool Bhulaiya (pun intended). Watch her act in the climax scene and you know she can do legendary stuff.  By 2009, Vidya Balan reinvented herself; she lost weight, exercised more, changed her sleeping habits and did all the good things. She strutted her stuff in the sexiest dress of India, the saree. Suddenly Vidya was back to her chirpy giggling self.  She bagged  Paa, an experimental movie by R. Balki and it turned out to be a big hit, as it reintroduced Amitabh Bachchan in the role of a child-artiste.

Vidya Balan pressed the seductive button for Ishqiya (2010) and created history with the hottest Bollywood kiss ever. When everyone braced for her earthy sensuality, she did an absolute turn-around and played the role of Sabrina Lal in No One Killed Jessica, where she was absolutely impressive. The big bang had to hit us in December when Vidya Balan redefined sensuality and acted like no one else' business as she slipped into the shoes of  Silk for The Dirty Picture (2011)

 In 2007,  there was a tough choice between Vidya Balan in Bhool Bhulaiya and Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met.  Kareena walked away with all awards because Jab We Met was quite popular a movie compared to BB.

This year in 2011, the battle-lines are drawn again. It is Kareena Kapoor in Bodyguard vs Vidya Balan in The Dirty Picture and you may well know who will win Filmfare Award 2012 for the best actress.

Upcoming movies of Vidya Balan and Kareena Kapoor -

 Kareena Kapoor has very good movies lined up in 2012 including Agent Vinod with Saif Ali Khan, Talaash with Aamir Khan and Madhur Bhandarkar's Heroine. Do not be surprised if she is nominated for all three for 2013 ! As for Vidya Balan, she has one movie Kahaani, in which she plays a pregnant woman after which she will consider more projects. Ekta Kapoor is considering signing her up for more movies and we can be sure that they are going to be experimental ones. Meanwhile Vidya Balan price is going to go from the current Rs. 4 crore to more. Now, there are many producers who are lined up to her door, requesting her to be a part of their projects. But she has decided to look at scripts carefully and make her decision.

The battle-lines are drawn.  When Vidya Balan was asked that Kareena Kapoor is going to be 'Dirty' as her in Heroine, Vidya said, "What do I say? I thought no one can get dirtier than this. Anyway, they will make Heroine; they can't make Dirty Picture."
