Dhamaal- Mother of all comedies

Dhamaal is joy ride at its best. After the inconsequential Pyaare Mohan, we were all wondering if Inder Kumar had lost his marbles. But he had hit back with a comic vengeance. His Dhamaal is his best in his repertoire of comedies. Dhamaal is Mr. Bean meeting the Carry on Series.

The story:

Well, there is none…to tell it in just a line(well, it is a one-lined story anyway), four good for nothing losers and a policeman are in search of a 10 crore treasure hidden underground in Goa. The screenplay takes over and the madness begins. Well, if you are trying to make sense of Dhamaal, then it is not for you. But if you want slap stick comedy, Dhamaal is your cup of milk..oops tea.

Dhamaal is inspired by: Well Dhamaal takes its ideas from various movies Mr.Bean’s Holiday, Mr.Bean TV series, Mad-Mad world and SMS jokes.

Dhamaal’s plus points:

1. Racy film-The movie takes off rather than moves.

2. In terms of scenes, the airplane scene, the Vinay Apte scene(Muthuswamy Iyer-south Indian take-off), the hanging scene where all the four are suspended by ropes to the trees, the Prem Chopra death scene take the cake. Please note all of this scenes are strictly hilarious.

3. Performances- Asrani, Riteish Deshmukh,Javed Jafferi, Aashish Vidyarthi are quite convincing and give spirited performances. Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi (the Munna Bhai couple) however look a bit jaded.

Dhamaal’s minus points:

1. There is no story.

2. Some of the jokes have been heard or seen before if you are into sms jokes.

3. Where are the songs?

Conclusion: Dhamaal is a true-blue boy flick. It is one of the rare films where there are no women and the good thing is that you don’t even realize it. However the film could have definitely been better if there were some peppy music ala Golmaal. Dhamaal is a must-watch and one of the reasons to smile this year.

Rated:4/5(very good)
