Bollywood corrupting youth? No way-Bollywood does not corrupt the youth

Bollywood is responsible for corrupting the youth…True or False.?
The belief is made on the premise of close minded individuals who specialize in blaming Bollywood for no reason or the other. Bollywood may influence the society just as any other form of media would- nothing more, nothing less. But since it is hugely popular, it is targeted all the more.
Sample this:
1. You hear in news about relative raping their own family member or people killing in crimes of passion. Bollywood hardly shows that.
2. In Mumbai, a TV executive is murdered by the jealous boyfriend of his actress friend, and his body cut into 300 pieces? Which “violent” Bollywood movie has gone to this extent?


3. There are so many child rapes happening in the country? Which mainstream Bollywood movie has shown such inhuman and despicable acts?
4. There are serial blasts happening in various parts of the country resulting in loss of life. Which Bollywood movie has propaganda religious divide, caste differences or glorified terrorism? Every movie which shows terrorism or underworld has ultimately shown the character meeting with a sad fate…examples Satya and Vaastav.
5. The health minister recently reportedly stated that actors should stop drinking and smoking in films because it corrupts the youth. Were people not drinking and smoking before movies were made? Didn’t they have a negative influence then?

It is fine to call Bollywood movie stupid and mentally challenging but they do definitely do not tarnish the society. In any case, vulgarity, full frontal nudity, blood and gore are rampant in English films, European cinema, porn movies and other forms of media. Bollywood would never go till that extent, no matter how modernized they claim to be. No heroine would ever strip to the buff in front of the Indian audience and no Hindi movie would show repulsive violence that would actually drive the public away.

On the contrary, Bollywood has given some of the finest and inspiring films that do not look vulgar or corrode the fabric of the society in any way. Movies like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, Page 3, Black, Taare Zameen Par, Chak De India, Lagey Raho Munnabhai are quality movies that have either highlighted the ills of the society or inspired the people
