Films based on Mahatma Gandhi


Here are some of the movies based on the father of the nation:
1. Gandhi-Academy award winning film on Gandhi. Ben Kingsley(who apparently looks like a Gandhi lookalike) starred in the movie. Released in 1982.

2. Lagey Raho Munnabhai-One of the biggest hits of 2006; a smart witty film based on Gandhian values. The movie had Dilip Prabhavalkar essaying the role of Gandhi.

3. The Making of Mahatma-In this movie released in 1996, the role of the father of the nation was played by Rajat Kapur. It talks about the times of struggle faced by Gandhi in South Africa

4. Hey Ram- The character of Mahatma was played by Naseerudin Shah. It tells a fictional story of an assassin who planned to kill Gandhi but later changed his mind. Released in 2000.

5. Maine Gandhi ko Nahi Mara- Story of a retired Hindi teacher who falls prey to the Alzheimers disease. He sees a picture of Gandhiji, a newspaper photo, and strangely believes that he was the one who killed Gandhi. Released in 2005.

6. Gandhi, My father-The story of the discord between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal(played by Akshaye Khanna). The actor who played Mahatmas role was Darshan Jariwala.
