How to Convert movie to 3D; Bollywood 3D Movies

Ra. One’s 3D version undoubtedly, costs higher than the 2D version. Ever since Avatar 3D got rave reviews everywhere across the world, back home the fantastic response to Haunted 3D assured the makers that it is worth the cost to convert a 2D film into 3D and release it at a higher price. In Mumbai, different theaters charge differently for 3D films, Fun Cinema charge Rs. 200 to Rs 380, Inox charges Rs. 450 and Big Cinemas charge Rs. 200 to Rs. 350, a good 50 to 75 bucks over the 2D Bollywood version.


How is a 2D movie converted into 3D?
To convert a 2D film into 3D, a process known as Rotonoscopy is done on the characters. This process consists of separation of the background and the foreground. Color correction is then done on the background and depth is added. Special 3D elements are then added in the 2nd phase. The process of conversion from a 2D film into a 3D film takes time, say three months to five months for a movie that is 2 hours long. Ra. One’s 3D conversion however was completed in record time, according to a source closely involved in the making of the film . According to Vikram Bhatt, a 3D movie costs 40 percent more than the normal budget of a film.

Future 3D Bollywood movies in Bollywood
Don-2 and Joker are 3D movies. Ragini MMS 2 will be released in 3D. Dhoom 3 -3D may release in 2013. Vikram Bhatt has decided to release all of his future movies in 3D. Dangerous Ishq, a thriller directed by him as well as Raaz 3 will be released in 3D. Ram Gopal Varma is planning two films in 3D- an adventure treasure-hunt movie called Raksha with John Abraham and a horror flick, ‘Warning’ with Ritiesh Deshmukh.
